Looking for an engineering firm? The Quality Based Selection Process can help you find the best firm for your project. Contact us if you'd like a copy of this American Consulting Engineers Council publication.

We have been informed that OSHA will be requiring every employer to meet workplace safety regulations. Visit their site, www.osha.gov. Their site also provides a link to the DOL site at www.dol.gov.

Government web sites have improved greatly. A wealth of information is now available online at most Federal and State Agency sites such as USEPA, FEMA, NYSDEC, NYSDOT. Most search engines can readily find a given agency, or try Citizen's Access to Government at www.state.ny.us/access.html

Graphic Information Systems (GIS) have also recently reached a critical mass. The technology has been with us for some time, but useful data was lacking. Many government agencies now have GIS information available, including:
soil mapping, tax parcels, orthophotography and flood plain maps.
To find out more, check the NYS GIS Clearinghouse at www.nysgis.state.ny.us.

Throw out our product catalogs? Maybe not yet, but it is getting easier to find product information including specifications and CAD ready drawing details from sites such as Sweets at www.sweets.com and Thomas Register at www.thomasregister.com.

Owners and design professionals both benefit from the trend toward design team services.
Smaller firms benefit by improved access to larger projects and clients.
Larger firms benefit from the unique experience, local presence or efficiencies of smaller firms.
The client benefits from a team that has been assembled specifically to meet the special needs of their project.
The ability for geographically separate firms to communicate through the Internet has been key to the success of this approach. Large drawing files are now routinely e-mailed back and forth among the design team. The next evolution in progress is project based web sites, which further improve the ability to communicate and share drawing and other project information.
